Nehemiah, a Persian cup bearer who had never seen Jerusalem, was heartbroken when he learned about the city’s broken walls and suffering people. Instead of rushing into action, he spent months in prayer and fasting, seeking God’s heart and timing. When King Artaxerxes noticed his sadness and asked about it, Nehemiah boldly requested permission to rebuild Jerusalem, along with safe passage and materials. The king granted everything because God’s hand was upon Nehemiah. This teaches us that God can place burdens on our hearts for things we’ve never personally experienced, and when we respond with patient prayer and bold faith, He can open doors in remarkable ways.
