King David, who experienced both triumph and hardship as a shepherd boy turned king, wrote Psalm 23 to share what he learned about walking with God through all of life’s seasons. When David declares “The Lord is my shepherd,” he’s describing a personal relationship with God who provides for our needs, leads us to what’s good, and walks with us through difficult times. Even in dark valleys where danger lurks, we don’t walk alone – God carries both a rod for protection and a staff for guidance. David concludes with absolute confidence that God’s goodness and faithful love will pursue us relentlessly throughout our lives. Through Jesus, the Good Shepherd who laid down His life for us, we can experience this same intimate care and provision today.
